Tips to Renovate Your House


Most of us have watched an episode or two about house renovation. TV shows often give us an idea of how we can turn a boring and dull house into a stylish and vibrant crib in just a matter of days and minutes. As great as it may seem to be, renovating a house is never an easy project. With various factors to consider, It takes an ample amount of planning and time to make it go as planned. 

This is the reason why it is essential to know what to do by carefully researching and planning out what you want to renovate into your home. To give you an idea of what you need to do, below are some simple tips to help you in renovating your home.

 

Tips for Home Renovation

1. Have a Plan

 Like any project, the first thing you need to do is create a plan on how you`d like things to go. Write it down in a notebook or sketchpad and put there what design you like, what you want to change, or how you want it to look after its finish. It doesn`t matter if the plan is simple, the most important thing is that you know what you want and how you want the house renovation to go.

2. Settle Permits and Hire Professional Help

Once you have decided to start with the project, you need to make sure that you have secured building permits in your local neighborhood. Though there are some states that don’t require one when it comes to renovation, it is still better to visit your local municipality if there is a need to apply for one. So that when you start the project everything will be as smooth and you’ll be able to avoid any future building code violations.

Also, it is also recommended to hire contractors and subcontractors to make the job easier for you. They will provide you all the things you need for building and give you the advice to make your home look even more amazing. However, they don’t come cheap so make sure to have a budget for them. 

 

3. Start on Big Projects

It is highly recommended to first start finishing on a larger project such as fixing or replacing your roof, installing or repairing siding and windows, fixing the foundation and securing it, etc. Whatever it is, make sure that you finish these kinds of projects first so that other projects aren’t affected when it is incomplete. Inspect everything by making sure that all the foundations are secure and all the interiors are dry when it rains. 

 

4. Demolish Section of Your House

You can now begin demolishing parts or sections of your house that need to be remodeled or renovated. Make sure to do this part carefully and follow all the safety precautions to avoid any accidents. To remove your waste, consider renting a large container to haul and dispose of it properly.

 

5. Begin the construction

Start to construct the area you want in your home. Carpentry skills are essential for this project as they will be used to construct new walls, placing beams, making the frames for windows, etc. for windows, and so on. When doing this make sure to use precautions to avoid any accidents to happen when you’re working.

 

6. Installation of Vital Services

When the walls and ceiling are still open in your home, vital services need to be installed. These include installation ductwork for central heating and air conditioning by the HVAC Company and running new electrical and plumbing systems which will be later be inspected by electrical and plumbing inspectors. 

 

7. Close the Dry Wall

You will need to close up your drywall by hanging, mudding, and sanding it. To do this, the sheets of the drywall will be hanged by the drywallers. They will then apply the drywall compound and leave it to dry. Once it dries, it will be sanded to make the surface smooth. They will sometimes continue to do this until it has a seamless surface. 

 

8. Finish off Interior Constructions

Once everything is in place, finish all the needed interior constructions in your house. These include putting paint, placing wallpaper on the walls of your rooms, and installing your flooring. Make sure to first paint everything before installing your flooring to prevent it from getting stained or damaged.
